25/365 - End

Sometimes the end
is the sweetest beginning
A piercing scream
urgently drawing
things to a close
and in the next instance
frantic footsteps
hurried rushing
a wall of heat
but just beyond
something emerges
from deep inside
the cavern
Heat spills out
and with it
smells emerge
wafting
spinning
winding
and weaving
into the room
It intoxicates you
draws you close
compels you to reach
to grasp
to pull
until it emerges
An illusion
released
Ideas solidified
like the ingredients
combined
mixed
folded
and baked
just long enough
to raise a souffle

24/365 - Your Good Deed for the Day

There is only one cookie left

and I want it.

Peanut butter and chocolate chip

I want it.

Homemade - a little less sugar,

a dash of salt,

a tad under-baked.

I want it.

It was a big day today

we worked hard

outside all day

together

in the hot sun

(so hot for February, right?)

I earned this cookie

I want this cookie

but so did you

and so do you.

Should we split this cookie?

Yes

That's what we'll do.

22/365 - Value

What really matters to you?
Is it when the sun is shining
and the sky is blue?
Is it the first bloom of spring's
bright purple hue?
Or is it the steel concrete towers
where they once grew?
and the money made there now
driving shareholder value

21/365 - Your Cheating Heart

I am sorry I haven't been there

like I said I would

I am sorry I haven't seen you

as often as I should

I used to get up every morning

just to see you wake

I used to rise dark and early

to witness your dawn break

But though I still get up early

I don't see you much anymore

It's not that I don't still love you

because it's you that I adore

It's just that there is someplace else

that I have to be

It is something I must do

It's not you, it's me

But I will still make the effort

to see your morning rays

And I'll still tell you goodnight

at the end of the day

when your trip around the earth

for the day is done

I will gaze to the West

to watch your setting sun

20/365 - Noteworthy

Something exceptional
doesn't have to happen
everyday
But if you take a moment
to notice
you may discover
that it does
anyway

19/365 - Wait

I am still here

Standing where you left me
When you closed the door
When you walked away

one
two
three
your footsteps on the stairs
and five more
down the front path

I am still here

Through the door I hear
the whine of the engine
as it turns over
and the crunch
of the tires
as it backs down
the driveway
and into the street

I am still here

And I'll wait patiently
with the last words you spoke
echoing in my head
"let's go to the park"
you said
as you clipped
on my leash
just before the phone rang
and you walked
out the door

I am still here

Asking Permission

Did I mean to or not? Am I sorry or did I just get caught? Your mad because you say You can never know either way But if I had just asked ...
