I saw them
across a crowded room
a sea of people
jumbling, jostling, jabbing
and then suddenly parting
to reveal an army
rows of perfection
uniform in rank
but not in color
some golden yellow honey
others rich chocolate brown
but all adorned with
the same jaunty hat
a cocoa-colored cap
Then just as suddenly
the crowd surged again
and they were gone
and I turned and left
before I caught a whiff
of their saccharin seduction
and gave into the temptation
of those mini cupcakes
