The grocery store

was empty

probably because

it was raining outside

It doesn't rain

in June

At least not

in California

At least not

in the Bay Area

But as I made

my way

carefree

with glee

down the empty isle

I saw something else

was empty

The shelf

where the root beer

should be

And I thought

perhaps that was the real reason

why the grocery store

was empty
