365/365 - Enjoy

And so
that's the way it ends
The hollow clink
The empty bowl
Gone
Done
Fin
But it was good
while it lasted
A moment shared
Time well spent

364/365 - Positive

Okay
January
Don't you think
it's quite enough
already?
You keep trying
but you can't beat me
Because I'll go outside
and I'll dance in the rain
You can thunder
you can lightening
you can do anything
but I'll just
shout into the wind
I'm not afraid
I don't care if I get wet
I'll jump in the puddles
anyway
and when I get home
I'll dry my shoes
on the heater
so tomorrow
I can be ready
to go back out
and play

363/365 - Insulation

In a meeting today
I heard someone say
Oh "F" word
It came out
so naturally
An exclamation
of frustration
and I couldn't help
but wonder
did she practice it
that way?
Did she think
well hey
I'm going to want
to swear someday
in front of my colleagues
but I couldn't possibly
upset their delicate
sensibilities
so I better make sure
I'm ready
for that inevitability
but instead of saying something
non-sensically
I'll just say the F-word
quite literally

362/365 - Most

There is indeed
too much
of a good thing
We've gone from
kicking up clouds of dust
to donning swimsuits
for our Sunday shopping
I mean I know it's needed
all this rain
But for the next
two weeks
we'll be the wettest
place on earth
and that's just
insane

361/365 - Mire

Well ain't that just
a metaphor
for how I feel today
The rain begins again
the wind is on the way
We're bogged down
in the muck and mire
that is January
With no break in sight
no sunshine
just varying shades of grey
But I'll keep on pedaling
through the puddles
because I have to
trust
that spring will come
someday

360/365 - Haughty

Why does BART
tiptoe through Berkeley
while in Oakland
it screams?
Those who have
more than enough
will just keep taking
'till they have everything
A million little injustices done
a million inches
in the great divide
until they need
a freeway to cross it
right through your backyard
ten lanes wide

359/365 - Deter

Oh
so you want to maul
the chair
take your sharp
little claws
and stick them everywhere
dig them deep
into the fabric
and rip
and shred
and tear
And while you create
your masterpiece
your fuzzy buddy
will curl up and sleep
and shed all of
his hair
which is why
every comfy seat
wears throw blanket
protective gear

358/365 - Shudder

What is this
strange light
so different
from last night
when the winds howled
and the trees did
shudder and shake
but now
it's my shoulders
that quake
as I shed the damp chill
that's been draped
over my goose pimpled skin
and begin
to thaw
in the thralls of Ra
until the next
wave or rain
moves in

357/365 - Forgotten

Christmas is done
but somewhere in this house
there's still a celebration going on
I try and catch it
out the corner of my eye
a glimpse of tinsel
glittering
as I walk by
or some red and green
peeking
from a forgotten corner
Though I did try
to put it all away
there's always something
that escapes
and suddenly
months later
it's Christmas in July

356/365 - Serendipity

It's a good thing
we got a cat
and a mischievous one
at that
He takes it upon himself
to see
the dishes are
washed up promptly
But don't think the cat's
the only one with a job
because it turns out
we're also lucky to have a dog
who takes his responsibility
quite seriously
to keep our floors
food scrap free
So as you can see
pets are awesome
they do the things you didn't
even know
you needed done

355/365 - Convince

Day two
and I already
don't want to
but I did anyway
Despite the rain
(and even though
I procrastinated
all day)
And I'll be at it
again
tomorrow
whether the sky's blue
or grey

354/365 - Handsel

What better luck
to start the year
then to face
and conquer your fear
Okay, the word conquer
might be wrong
more put it in it's place
where it belongs
From zero feet
at the Bay
to 190
mingling
with the sun's rays
and only 7,000 steps
to get there
7,000 steps
into my fear
My gift to myself
to start the year

Full Steam Ahead

The clang of the bell and clatter of metal broke the tense silence; and a whirlwind of energy burst forth. Muscles, taught and rippling, swe...
